Counterpoint SQL V8.5.6 (December 2018)

Point of Sale
    Printing a Sales Draft

This version of Counterpoint allows retailers to print a sales draft if the ticket uses EMV payment and requires capturing a signature but the application does not have the capability to capture one. This feature supports both signature capture and non-signature capture devices:

  • Ingenico iPP320
  • Ingenico iSMP4
  • Ingenico iSC250
Accepting 5-Digit PLU Codes in Random Weight Barcodes

NCR Counterpoint 8.5.6 allows retailers to configure the store to accept 5-digit Price look-up (PLU) codes when scanning items with random weight barcodes during ticket entry. By default, only 4-digit PLU codes are parsed from items.

Purchasing
Setting Min/Max Inventory Quantities for Specified Items to Zero

This version of Counterpoint allows retailers to use the Min/Max Advice window, which is used to generate the MIN/MAX ADVICE report, to set the minimum and maximum inventory quantities of specified items to zero. This capability immediately reduces the stocking levels of certain items to accommodate seasonal or periodic fluctuations in sales.

Credit Cards
    Improved TLS 1.2 Support

To comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), you can now fully enable TLS 1.2 and have early TLS disabled within the application. Counterpoint V8.5.6 now installs and uses SQL Server Native Client 11.1 (SQLNCLI11.1). This client is automatically incorporated in the Counterpoint SQL prerequisites.

Customization
    Customizing Touchscreen Buttons

This version of Counterpoint allows retailers to customize the text color and background color properties of the touchscreen buttons using a search-and-replace functionality. The settings are included in the Upgrade User Interface utility.

Hardware
    Line Display for Ingenico iSC250

In 8.5.6, the iSC250 payment terminal can now be configured as a line display using UniTerm. You can configure message sets and subscribe the device to line display events.

The device displays items as they are added to a ticket. Like previous versions of Counterpoint, customers will be prompted to insert or swipe a payment card automatically each time you start a new ticket.

Offline Ticket Entry Option (Enterprise)
    Processing Orders in Offline Mode

In this version of Counterpoint, you can now process orders in the Offline Ticket Entry mode. When offline, existing orders can be retrieved from the server and processed "on the fly".

To process orders offline, connectivity between the POS and the store server is still required. If you are completely disconnected, orders are added, but not processed.

The time it takes for offline order updates to sync to the server database depends on the network connectivity. To ensure that the user is processing the latest copy of an order, Counterpoint checks if the server data and POS data have been synced before letting the user continue processing an order.

Improved Gift Card Redemption in Offline Mode

Previously, during gift card redemption in offline mode, the validation is based on the local workstation’s database information. This creates a risk for fraudulence since gift cards can be redeemed simultaneously in different locations.

In this version, offline workstations connect to the store server and retrieve updated information during redemption or balance inquiries. Connectivity between the POS and the store server is required. Otherwise, if Counterpoint cannot communicate with CPServices, the card is validated locally and updates are delayed.
